The Embassy past to present

The Royal Embassy Apartments were built in 1968 as a building with 132 rental units.
The building featured a coffee shop (in the location that is currently the gym) and residents gathered in groups for coffee and for lunch to enjoy the companionship and the food. The original proprietor of the coffee shop was a man named Eddy who was from New Jersey and was quite a comedian. He provided many humorous stories that added much to the experience of eating in the coffee shop.
In about 1979, the N. V. Kimberlite Corporation owned the building and decided to turn it into condominiums rather than rentals. They offered the current tenants the right to reserve their units for purchase. Many residents decided to move rather than buy the units they lived in. Most of the commitments were made by the end of 1979 and sales were confirmed in 1980. When the building went ‘condo’ the developers provided new appliances for the purchasers.
When the majority of units had been sold, the building became the Royal Embassy Condominium and the condominium corporation established the governing structure.
By 1985, it was said that 91 of the 132 units had been purchased, and the rest were still being rented.
Although many changes have been instituted, the Royal Embassy continues to be a good building in a good location and provides both a full-time home and a seasonal home for its owners and residents.
